I went the “The Silver Ring Thing” last night with my son.  The national program is a faith based message promoting abstinence for our teenagers.  I thought it was a great program.  My son also thought it was a great program.  During the long ride home we had a good conversation (not a lecture from mom) about sex and life and the future.  I feel blessed that my 16 year old will still talk to me.

The #1 thing that stuck with me was a comment made during the parent’s session.  The speaker has two daughters and said he was praying for them to marry “phenomenal men”.  His phrase swam around in my brain until the conversation on the way home when I talked to my son about being such a man as this.  I want him to learn from the mistakes of his mother, father, step-mother and step-father.  He has alot of examples to choose from but most of all to purpose in his heart to be the best man he can be for the fabulous woman he will build a life with.  He promised to pay close attention and learn what NOT to do from our bad examples.

I told him that my prayer for him and my future hope was that he would never be someone’s ex-husband.  I could see the light bulb come on in his brain as he looked at me and said

“No mom, I will never be an ex husband.”

This is a Happy Thursday for me!!!!!
