The Woman at the Well

Back on Jan 18th I sent out a welcome home blog that mentioned the custom’s agent who flirted with me…..the Lord has been nudging me, re-visiting the fog surrounding the conversation before the flirt……. So last night I got out my Bible and decided to meditate on God’s word and see what He was poking at…..
The agent, Mr. Castillo, quoted the following scripture to me……
Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
I keep hearing “Samaria, the woman at the well…..”
The book of John, chapter 4 tells of Jesus stopping at Jacob’s well in Sychar, in Samaria and a woman came to that well to get water, Jesus had a conversation with her while waiting for his disciples to return. Not only odd for Jesus to have a conversation with a woman alone, but for a Jew to talk to a Samaritan was unheard of then. I read and re-read the story and what jumped from the Word to me was when Jesus told her to “go call your husband and come back”
Her reply, verse 17 “I have no husband”.
My memory travels back to Washington D. C. when he asked me where my husband was. Why did I respond “I don’t have one”? That has bothered me since it came out of my mouth. I am not divorced, yet it is true that I do not have a husband, I have been on my own for almost 2 years now. Friends ask me why I am not divorced yet, other friends encourage me to pray for reconciliation….
I tell them all “I’m waiting to hear from God.” To which the divorce team says, that I have heard plenty from God I’m just not listening.
Okay, let’s get back on track here. So, through the fog I now realize that my conversation with Mr. Castillo was no accident, God was right there even though my brain was not. So, I researched the woman at the well for yet more clues as to what the Lord is trying to tell me……
I read the story again. What I am struck the most with is that this woman is NO saint, she is a sinner, He tells her that she has had 5 husbands and the guy she has at home is NOT one of them…… pretty embarrassing to say the least – to have God tell you the dirty secrets that He knows right out in the light of day. The woman, as unclean as she was and a Samaritan at that, leaves her water jar and runs to the towns people and tells them all….
Verse 29 “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”
So much to take in here – first, she was unclean and that did not stop her from bringing people to Jesus ! And many people came . Second, she was a Samaritan and the Christ was coming for the Jews – this didn’t stop her either. Jesus had struck a conversation with her and she was determined to receive from Him and give to others as best she could.
This was a woman of faith. Jesus’ words did NOT fall to the ground in Sychar – this woman brought many to Him and…
Verse 42 “They said to the woman, we not longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”
So, what’s the moral of this blog – – – – don’t EVER let the devil tell you that you’ve fallen too far from God’s grace. No matter how many husband’s I’ve had God can still use me to tell people about Him. And He spoke miraculously through a US Custom’s Agent to get my attention to a story in His word that I’ve read but never digested – now I’ve digested it and know that God was waiting on me to get home from Africa, right there where we landed, He was right there in line with me in customs.
He truly is everywhere, waiting and wanting us to stop, look and listen for His still small voice to tell us deep mysteries and beautiful love stories.
