(Corrections to the original blog:     Story found in Numbers Chapters 13-14 with 14:33 being the Lord’s Judgment upon the 40 years in the wilderness.)

**************************

In the Bible the book of Exodus is the story of the Israelite people walking into freedom from slavery in Egypt. Moses led them into the wilderness by the direction of God to return to their homeland in Canaan. They sent spies to scout out the squatters on the land of their fore fathers,  to get a clear perspective about the battles ahead for the land.

All of the spies except two returned and reported that the inhabitants were giants and said “We are grasshoppers in their site”.

brave enough to be different

The two spies disagreed but their opinions were not accepted. So, the Israelite people walked around in that wilderness until an entire generation died off and their children could be trusted to fight for the land.

Many observations I want to discuss in this Bible Story all of which translate into my current life and show the way for me to change and grow.

**********

First, they were slaves, they did not comprehend freedom and did not have any fight inside of them.

Second, they were faithless. God had made the Red Sea dry for them to walk across, then He drowned the entire Egyptian army in the sea as the part closed back up. Then He gave them clear direction through a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Then He rained down Manna from Heaven for them to eat each day. But even after all of these miracles they were still faithless.

Third, God waited until all had died off except the three that believed.  Moses and the two spies.  Those who believed, lived.

hope if today i lose it

*****************

I relate to the Israelite people in this story, I have felt like a grasshopper most of my life.  Now I see these four life changing statements to help me in my faith walk……

hope rise and darkness tremble

First, we MUST believe that God can deliver us from anything that enslaves us.

Second, we MUST have faith that if God is leading us then He is directing us.

Third, we MUST survive and persevere until the time comes when we win the war.

And finally, fourth…… we MUST be ready when God says “now” – or else we will go back around in a circle in the wilderness until the time when God asks us……….

“Are you still a grasshopper?”

everything you want is on the other side of fear
