Lap of Luxury

If you are reading this post then you have internet access.
This is a LUXURY!! Home internet is something that I have done without for over 2 years – I am thankful and appreciative
that I am blogging to you now with this luxury in place. No longer do I have to go to work early, stay late or use my lunch hour to blog.
And, just in time because I received a call the very day the internet was hooked up from one of my son’s teachers who asked me to help him with an assignment, she would send me everything we needed via a school website. So we were saved a trip to my office, we just curled up at home on the laptop and got to work.
Praise God for laptops and internet – Truly, I’m living in the “Lap of Luxury”.
I’m very happy in the new place. I cannot describe the relief that comes with rounding the corner and seeing garbage cans at the curb EMPTY and seeing the truck in my driveway with mowing equipment because the grounds keeper is making my yard beautiful.
Without a yard to care for, or trips to the dump to take my garbage my life is easier. There is more time to write and be creative. Also, the smaller place has proven easier to keep clean as I am a true pig at heart !
Not everything is peachy, My son and I tried an experiment this visit, he brought his large dog since I now have a GREAT fenced in back yard. Well, the deal was you can bring the dog but he cannot be left alone inside or out. So, I left last night to go to church while my son stayed home to dog sit. It was my night to be on “Prayer Team” – of course we went into overtime which I am always glad for because it means we are praying for God to have access and change realities into miracles. I never have my cell phone, I feel it would be very rude to have a cell phone go off during prayer. Besides, my son is 17 what could he possibly need me for?
Well, when I picked up my purse to leave, I saw several missed phone calls and texts ! While i was peacefully praying my son was at the new place completely freaked out by two different homeless men. One he surprised while walking, the man was eating a package of Oreos out of dumpster near the house. The other approached him later while he sat on the front porch. He says that in San Antonio he can sit on the front porch and not be messed with at all, yet here in a little po dunk country town you can’t. My son came in the house but the man stayed in the front yard for several minutes. Why? I don’t know. Maybe he was hungry, but it really freaked out my son. It would have freaked me out too.
I have seen men digging in the dumpsters around the neighborhood at night, complete with flashlights, sticks and grocery carts. I never thought they’d stop at the house.
So, while I’m basking in the lap of luxury, there are homeless people around her scrounging for food. Everything needs to be put into the proper perspective. I will pray about my response to them and what God wants me to do. I will also keep my doors locked and stay inside after dark. Every new move has its ups and downs. I am really happy here, what I need to do for my “neighbors” is something the Lord will need to tell me. The Bible talks about neighbor and it does not say that being homeless disqualifies you for that category.
