Is it better to give than to receive?

Take another sip of coffee before you check out this blog. Ready?

{Almost} Anyone will give, not everyone is able to receive.

If I asked you for money to help out someone I personally know in need your kneejerk reaction would be – sure, but if I asked you to take money from me to pay your electric bill you’d tell me you were really ok and didn’t need help.  Receiving is hard. Now I have met people in my life who go to all the food banks and seek out assistance and try to get everything they can – this is not what I’m talking about.  I’m speaking of us hoping someone won’t find out we’re struggling. About 4 years ago I had a friend show up at my doorstep with her suv filled with groceries – I was horrified ! She hugged me, then said “Get over it, I love you. Now help me unload.” That very same night the Pastor of our church showed up with $2000. cash for us, he had taken up an offering in 1 Sunday School class – that much money from 1 class. I was horrified and thankful at the same time. The money went to pay back rent to avoid eviction!

If we cannot receive from people on Earth what makes us think we can receive from our Heavenly Father?  Have I blogged about “orphans” yet? I can’t remember so I’ll say it again…. The missionary from the Cambodia sex trade rescue said it best…. “Of all the people that come to Jesus, only a few keep pressing in until they get to Father. Jesus is the first born, our brother but God is our Father – He adopts us and we are no longer orphans but His children.” We must be able to receive our invitation to Heaven, the Bible says we are the Bride of Christ, there will be a wedding feast – we are the bride – we are worthy, beautiful creations in love with our Creator and worthy of His love and His eternal life.

It’s not our eternal life, it’s His.

The next time someone wants to give you something just smile and say thank you.
