Happy Movie Friday

I love movies, especially action movies.  The Expendables 2 is opening this weekend and I’ve had a standing date to go see it with a fellow female action fan for weeks.  I sure hope it’s good. This week there is alot of hype for the opening and last night I caught a documentary on the making of the 1st Expendables.  I was impressed.

“In my life I consider that I ‘ve had 90% miss and 10% hit on what I’ve wanted to accomplish, but the 10% sure counts.” Sylvester Stallone

In filming the 1st Expendables Sylvester Stallone was injured 3 major times during fight scene filming. He suffered a torn rotator cuff (shoulder), completely severed a ligament in his leg (ankle area) and in one particular throw against a wall by Steve Austin his spine was bruised and a spinal disc was pushed completely into the spinal column.  Doctors wanted to do surgery immediately on more than 1 of these injuries – he refused to stop filming.  His recovery time would have taken too long, Jason Statham was scheduled to be on another movie shoot and Stallone would lose alot of his behind the scenes crew so surgery was not an option.  He was given pain injections and areas wrapped to slow down further damage.

“You are always looking to prove yourself to yourself.  It’s not about success, it’s personal pride.” Sylvester Stallone

Drive. Passion. Determination.  I am amazed what it takes from so many people so that I can pay $7.00 and escape reality for 2 hours.

On his first big movie roll in 1975’s “Farewell My Lovely” Mr. Stallone was treated terrible by a producer who wanted him cut and then a make up technician told the caterers not to give him food because he wouldn’t even make it past lunch on the set !  So funny.  Goes to show we have no idea who we are talking to or talking about. He said the experience made him a better director, on his sets EVERYONE gets food.

Have a great weekend, hope to see you at the theater.
