Happy Mother’s Day

Today is officially Mother’s Day.  My personal belief is that EVERYDAY is mother’s day.  When I started thinking of what to blog I started remembering precious memories from my life as a mom.  Here are two of the great ones.

When my daughter (now 21) was little I was icing a cake to take to a party at my work.  She climbed up onto a chair at the bar and said “Is that my happy birthday to you?”.  It was the cutest thing I had ever heard.  It was also her first complete sentence.  It just doesn’t get any better than that.  Except recently when she and her husband came to the Boy Scout car wash and all the other moms just stared at her until one said “Is this your daughter?” And when I introduced her to everyone I said “Isn’t she pretty?” This created a dirty look from her but it was totally worth it !

My father had knee replacement surgery and was staying with my family to recover. My young son (now 16) was just old enough to walk at a stable gait and he  would get up each morning and “examine” his Pappa’s scar. One morning he rounded the corner into the kitchen and fell flat ! As he cried he kept reaching up to his Pappa for help and my dad said “I’m sorry, I can’t get you.  If you want my help you’ll have to come over here.” My son stopped crying, set up, contemplated for a moment and then picked himself up walked across the kitchen floor got all the way up to his Pappa and then laid back down at his feet and re-activated his crying. OH, BOY – my dad and I started laughing and just couldn’t stop.  What a super great memory !!
