Asleep At The Wheel

Like the windy days of this severe Texas winter the Holy Spirit has been blowing through my life and shaking everything up.
I did not realize that I had fallen asleep, lulled into complacency by my own heartbeat, television and warm blankets.
I was supposed to start college online in January – INSTEAD, I could not navigate the school’s website correctly and missed the sign up deadline.
I was supposed to get some stories for my “Cat Book” series to my friend, the published illustrator who is waiting on me to provide words for her paintings so my dream of being a author can become a reality – INSTEAD, I could not find the cat adventures I had written down and I could not muster the motivation to create more.
I was supposed to use “home internet” to help a ministry with their website, finish my goal of 365 blogs published, and do college online – INSTEAD, I got addicted to Facebook and Pintrest instead.

One of my favorite quotes comes from the movie “Girl Interrupted”. In this movie Wynona Ryder has been admitted into a mental institution for a temporary problem and becomes captivated by another patient who is a permanent resident. As Wynona struggles to find her purpose and her voice in the world her friend has a
powerful personality and has easily taken timid Wynona under her wing. In a quiet but intense scene in the movie a nurse played by Woopi Goldberg tells Wynona’s character……
“Do not drop anchor here.”

This is a powerful statement. We must fight for our right to be creative, inspired, and encouraged.
I am thankful that God fought me and fought for me.

I had moved into a small space that I could not afford – INSTEAD, He got me out of the lease early.
I was a couch potato – INSTEAD, He gave me the idea to get a place that my mom and I could share, and make soap together for extra money.
I had gotten behind on my bills, was struggling to catch up – INSTEAD, He prompted my mother to ask someone to help me.
I was humiliated to accept help – INSTEAD, He showed me how to swallow my pride and receive unmerited favor.
Was the move easy – NO. There were many bumps along the road. But, bumps are a good reminder to stay awake !
Every adversity reminds me that God is shaking me up to wake me up.
