Are You Locked in the Basement ?

Last night’s class was so enthralling that we stayed until 8:30!  A picture of the dry erase board is here as proof.  “Basement Mentality” was the topic.  How you see yourself is your “mentality” and what you see in others is their “behavior”.  Basically we discussed how to spot a loser, how to get yourself out of the basement and how to lift your level instead of lowering it.

You can’t change anyone else so you must change your mentality and get a healthy self image of yourself so that you can get your radar tuned in to avoid people who are in the basement.  This awareness applies to any relationship.

Romantic – Friendship – Coworker – Fellow Church Member – Family

For my married readers, I caution that if your spouse (or you) suffer from a basement mentality then the weight of that will pull the ground level or penthouse person down.  I have seen many testimonies where women have “loved their husbands to Jesus” and the outcome is incredible.  Much prayer, fasting and seeking the Lord for wisdom will be needed to get someone out of the basement. Some have been locked in there since childhood and simply offering a way of escape is not enough.

What keeps someone in the basement is FEAR.  Next week we are discussing this and how it navigates a person’s life.  Self esteem and self confidence are both controlled by fear, everything is controlled by fear. God wants us delivered from fear. I believe we will all come to a specific point in time where we must face what we fear and choose – to overcome or be overcome.

Great men and women of the Bible who had to OVERCOME…. something.

 Abraham, Sarah, Isaac (Israel), Jacob, Joseph, Judah, Joshua, Rahab, Esther, Ruth, David, Gideon, Mary, Joseph, and Peter.  These are just the ones who come to my mind. The first three had to overcome so much that God Himself changed their names.
