This is a comment from yesterday’s blog – I thought it was too good to keep as a comment only – –
************************************************************** O’ so true, well said Chuck. This reminds me of a photo/note I recently read on Facebook. Of course, the note says more with the photo, but y’all can imagine the image. The note read, “Face it, your staring is more offensive than my tattoos.”
I would also like to add that while listening to Glenn Beck this morning, he made a very valid point regarding offending and being offended. Beck said, “there is nothing in the Constitution that says we are guaranteed NOT to be offended… matter of fact, the 1st Amendment practically guarantees we are going to both offend and be offended.” His point is this – at some point we are all going to a) be offended and b) offend someone else.
Keeping in mind that the US Constitution is modeled after the Bible – I looked up what Scripture has to say about being offended and offending others. What I found is like the US Constitution, Scripture does not guarantee we will not be offend. And much like the Constitution, God’s Word almost guarantees we at some point will be offended and offend others.
So what’s a girl to do? Scripture has an answer (of course it does!) Turn to Romans 14:21 and analyze using THIS measuring stick – It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. Will our criticizing cause them to stumble, to be offended, or make them weak? If so, than it is not good.
I’ll stop with this final note – “Love me for me, or let me be, but please don’t criticize me.”
